It is the UK Naval Historic Flight Swordfish, as for the watermark, I cannot remove it as unfortunately I have had some of my photographs stolen recently :(

Here are some more of the details of "Taking the salute"

Exposure Program:Shutter Priority Exposure Time:1/125 sec FNumber:f/16 Flash:No Flash Focal length:400 mm ISO:320

Congratulations Ingerson - and everyone else!

When the superb entries started coming in one after another I knew there was no point in me trying to compete this week - and what a tough job to pick a winner .

UK_Tomcat_Fan, your shot of the "Stringbag" was was over the top - fabulous - but I do think you should lose the watermark. If someone wanted to steal a copy it would take less than a minute to get rid of it, so what's the point?

Congrats Ingerson"PCD". Great photo.

CalmAsToast - I don't know if it's a golden light, or golden flies, but it's very effective. I like the composition, although there seems to be something OOF in the foreground that is somewhat distracting, and I wish more of the insects were in focus, but overall a very nice image!

Thanks for the comments Garry, I appreciate it. It was in fact just a few minutes before the sun disappeared. The OOF is all background. It just kind of wraps and expands because of the lighting. It was so hard to get a good focus on the bugs and I wanted a narrow depth of field that I ended up focusing on the branch and then recomposing to catch the flies and hope some were in focus.

Great job with the choice and the critique Garry. Nice set of images. Kevan the birds are amazing! I would order a small print. Martin's image is really nice too. The whole set is really nice. Great work.

Well done to all, There were a great set of shots, and I would have found it hard to choose.

There is certainly some great talent on this forum.

Garry, you poor sod, brilliant topic and a hopelessly difficult judging you faced. You done good.

Eric, risking life and limb having motorcycles buzzing overhead, with its driver hardly in control. I wouldn't make that a hobby.

Honestly, the "taking the salute" is just about as good as it gets. It's scenes like this that get young men ( and now women) in trouble. Double wow!

Gosh, I wish I could tell you all that I had spent a freezing day cramped in a blind trying to get my shot. Nope...I was walking on the Rockefeller grounds when this flock burst from the stables-turned-restaurant nearby. One moment I'm shooting slow moving pastures and trees, the next I'm shooting skeet, with real pigeons.

Wow, what a great set of images this week! You all made it very tough on me. :)

Mike53545 - Fantastic shot! I love birds; I love eagles; and this is a beautifully timed and technically excellent shot! Well done! The bird is a little bit too much in the centre of the frame. I would have cropped in a little tighter and moved the bird to the left a bit. Also, and most importantly, the giant red URL in the bottom corner is very distracting. If you must have it, I would suggest maybe a white font and 1/3 the size.

I too have had many images "stolen" from this site... so I leave the marks on there big.... i do understand that it can take a little from the photo, but if you look at the image you will see what you should

These where pointed out some of us a month or so back.... on the first page alone there are 7 of my images all stolen: http://www.techturkey.com …7-ucak-jet-resimleri.html (external link)

exactly where my images were... I have now blocked turkey from my webserver.

I have also reduced the opacity of my watermark, but that will become visible on my next lot of publishing, that was at 80%, so I have lowered it to 55% and will see how that goes

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the challenge, and yes, the judging was very difficult. :)

On the topic of watermarks and image sizes, the PP software available today can easily remove watermarks and can do an extremely good job of resizing with little or no loss of quality. Images can be flipped, backgrounds replaced, colors altered, layers added, etc.
Like most things, you can only protect yourself against the honest and ethical. The dishonest will steal the images they want no matter what you do. For the time being, all images on public sites are vulnerable.

Garry............... May you pack two days of livin' into every day you're given.

Protect them with Digimarc electronic watermarking. Not that I've had images stolen but I use Digimarc and images are traceable through Digimarc. You will have a hard time detecting or removing a Digimarc watermark because it is nearly invisible and spread over a large portion of the image.

Here is an image protected by Digimarc. The watermark can be read in CS5.
