I have all three in my possession now and have spent much of the day comparing these three. Will have some test photos up soon, using the 5Dc first then the Rebel XTi later.

I will say this......the 70-210 F4 really does live up to the "Poor Man's L" reputation when you stop it down to about 6.3. The 70-200 F4L IS goes without saying, but the 80-200 kit lens is surprisingly tack sharp, loud AF be damned. The 10mm extra reach on the 70-210 F4 makes a difference on a crop format sensor though.

I have the 70-210 f4, and it hardly leaves my camera, regardless of what I'm shooting. I Love it. I actually feel lucky to have found it. I was looking for a decent tele lens on a budget for airshow photos, and an old hand on a forum recommended it to me (actually, he recommended the 3.5-4.5, but he got me on the path).

I haven't actually got to use it at an airshow yet, but the new season is not as far away as it seems!

It's a really beautiful portrait lens.

The only thing is it's quite hard to hold it steady at the long end, but it's good training, and beautiful when you do get it right.

I'm looking forward to your findings.

That was my experience too. The 80-200 f/4.5-5.6 II is surprisingly sharp given that it looks like a very cheap piece of plastic. It may have a slow max aperture, but it is super light and tiny. There aren't too many 200mm telephotos that fit conveniently into a jacket pocket.

When someone doesn't be a retard and formats their memory card with ALL of the photos on it. whoops.

so.....Wednesday I should have something up.....but I did get this one little comparison shot that I did.

Top is the 70-210, bottom is the 70-200 F4L IS with a polarizer on. At 6.3 the difference at 100mm is negligible. VERY minor CA on those telephone poles, but otherwise a worthy backup to my 70-200 F4L IS while I send it in for repair.
