Ok. I've decided that I'm going to upgrade my T2i in the next little bit for a full-frame camera, so the 5DII.

For a while I was leaning towards the 7D, but realized that what I enjoy taking the most are pictures that are about image quality rather than the ability to very rapidly capture a fleeting moment. To that end, I'm now looking at the 5D. I'm fine with no longer being able to use the two kit lenses I got with my T2i - I seldom to never use them anyway.

I'm getting the first bonus at work in three years in a week and a half, and might purchase the 5DII body at that time. However there are numerous indications that by Photokina 2012 there will be a 5DII successor/new FF body announcement.

I'm curious - what anticipated improvements do YOU expect from the next Canon FF body? Video is great, but I'm getting a DSLR primarily for photo.

Did you try to find similar topics?? there are a few out here.
My advice, if you need it buy it.
From what I´ve read news from a new 5D not until the end of 2012.
All people want a better AF, improved high ISO, more FPS, more weather sealing, etc.

You'll be waiting a long time for the successor of the 5D II unless they suddenly surprise us, which is highly doubtful. I say get it!

I've just purchased the 5D mk ii a few months ago and love it. I plan to sell it on eBay when the mark III comes out. :D

Photokina 2012 will be towards the end of next year. Do you really want to wait that long?

Other than that, I don't think there will be a 5D MkIII, but a camera between a 5D Mk II and a 1Ds MkIII, whatever it may be called, likely with the 5D form factor, with a high MP sensor, higher than 5D MkII, probably priced between a 5D MkII and a 1Ds MkIII.

Considering what happened to the sales of the 1Ds MkIII (went down badly, because many used it in a studio environment), I think Canon will provided different MP FF sensors this time around, aimed at different segments of the market (the first step was/is the 1Dx :D). So, IMO, expect a very high MP "3D", and a version with less MP and less possibilities, possibly a "6D". The "3D" will probably be priced quite highly, but less than the 1Ds MkIII and the "6D" with a bit of luck at the same price point as the 5D MkII when it ariived on the scene.

MP-wise, I would expect the more advanced and more expensive camera to have a 30 to 39 MP sensor (although it would be technically possible to go up to ~47 MP), and the lower MP one a 24 to 30 MP sensor. These cameras would serve the pro and advanced amateur/semi-pro market for studio work and landscapes.

And thinking about the 1Dx, and what is possible, these cameras might well have 18MP (1Dx), 27 MP ("6D") and 36 MP sensors ("3D"). This sounds like a nice, logical progression :D.

That's my take on this :D.

Kind regards, Wim

buy it now, if you're waiting for the replacement of the 5d2 you could be in for a long wait.

Wait for the 5D Mark IV. It will be WAAAAY better than the Mark III, not to mention the crappy Mark II.

EDIT: Seriously, why do we need 50 of these threads per week? The answer is ALWAYS the same:

1. If you need a new FF camera now, buy the 5D2.
2. If you don't, wait. But know you could be waiting for quite a while.

If you have lenses to suit it, the go for it... or don't.
If you don't have lenses to suit it, spend some money there first.

Nobody (outside of Canon anyway) has any idea when - or even IF - a 5D3 will be released. I'm guessing it will only be when the 5D2 sales start to slide or Nikon releases something that will eat meaningfully into Canon's market share. I'd be surprised if there's another high end camera before the London Olympics... Canon has the 1Dx to worry about and too many product releases dilute the advertising effectiveness. Whatever happens, the replacement for the 5D2 will be a lot more expensive. You should expect $3500 - $4000.

Otoh, I'd not be surprised to see a T3i replacement a month or so before the games...

So - take photo's or don't. I am very pleased with my 5D2, perhaps exactly because it has never worn an autofocus lens. You may love it or you may not. Buy a used one, try it and if you like it, keep it. I you want something shiny, sell it and consider the $200 you loose when it's replaced to be rental. It's a good deal.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

Get a 5d now for $800 and spend the rest on glass. When the 5d2 repacement coes along, you can upgrade to either the 5d2 or it's replacement with a mitt full of lens.

I guess it depends on what kind of time and budget you have. I too have been waiting to see if there is a 5D III coming out but the prices are falling fast right now on the 5D II. If you have the time and an extra $1,000 - $2,000 that you will most likely have to pay for the III, then wait. I am going to get a great deal now and start enjoying the FF!

buy now or you might end up spending your bonus by the time it comes out or you might get another bonus by then and just sell your 5d2 and buy lens either way time is on your side

If I see a thread with the same name AGAIN, I will have to SCREAM....read people, search people, its been asked 1,000,000 times already on EVERY forum photography related across the internet.

There hasn't even been an official release date announcement for a 5DIII so it doesn't exist, stop asking about it!

Hello Lao - POTN has a wonderful search feature that is pretty straightforward. Regarding your questions:

https://photography-on-the.net …=1116943&highlight=5d+mk3

https://photography-on-the.net …=1096590&highlight=5d+mk3

It makes for some interesting reading, but you have to take much of it with a grain of salt in the prediction department. Bottom line - none of us really know and it's just speculation.
