Today was a very sad day. It's a day my wife and I said goodbye to our oldest cat, our beloved Lucca, who at 10 years old succumbed to aggressive cancer.

Here's a thread I opened up a few days ago when we decided to put her to sleep after Thanksgiving: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1118000. I certainly appreciate all the kind messages.

This was our first experience putting a cat to sleep, but I can tell you that she went very peacefully with us by her side. The vet agreed we were doing the right thing, which eased our pain.

Lucca was a special cat. She was with my wife even before I met her. My wife experienced 9-11 up close and personal having worked in that area and Lucca was there to comfort her. In fact, Lucca had this amazing ability to sense things like that. When my wife came down with a cold or was down about something, she would always be by her side. Just an amazing, amazing cat.

She will be missed, but never forgotten.

Here are some photos I took of her last night, which literally was her last night.

Rest in peace Lucca...

You two will have lots of fond memories of her. She was a very beautiful and lucky kitty.

I'm sorry for you're loss. I lost my "Tigger" earlier this year. He went peacefully on his own, but it was still hard to say goodbye. Treasure you're memories and you're pictures. I took pictures and video near the end that are treasures to me now.

It's always sad when we lose a loved one, be it human or animal. I offer my condolences.

What a beautiful looking kitty, may she RIP. Losing a pet is never easy, they are family just like children are. (((Hugs))) to yourself and your wife.

I feel for your loss. We loss our Orange Tabby earlier this year. Here is something that I think will help you:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I remember we went to see the latest Harry Potter the day our cat had died. One of the most memorable lines in the movie was when Dumbledorf told Harry, "Don't pity the dead, pity the living."
