In an effort to tie the shot together I changed the direction that the rider is looking. I did this by selecting the upper half of the rider, flipped it horizontally, and then did an awful lot of pixel level editing to make it fit.

And you did that well, upon first look, I thought "okay, he flipped the image".
Then "uh, no, the horses are the same… Okay, he flipped horse and rider"
Then "oh, all horses are the same…"
Then, finally, the dime fell

Nice to see the step-by-step.

This is an old photo from 2007, and an extreme edit, which is something I don't normally do. All that I really did was use auto tone in PS and then reduce some of the noise.

Had it printed on an 8x12 and framed for my Dad, and it looks great.

Very very well done. The OOC made the promise of a beautiful shot with simple but attractive composition, and the processing fulfilled that promise.

Tip of the hat.

I've been spending some time recently learning simple ways to edit photos. Most of my editing is done in under 3 minutes:

#1 and #3 are overedited IMO: Skin texture is lost.
Partly a matter of taste, but only partly.

Then again, if that's what the client wants… ;)

The first one rubs me the wrong way - could be the lavender tones or the skin being overprocessed. Could be the background as well... ok let's just say I don't like it lol.

Second is a great composite. Nice blending and I like how you added shadows of the leaves on the dinosaurs to make it more realistic.

Third looks good to me too. Maybe a bit flat as far as skin but still good. Since you liquified her face a bit, might wanna do the same to her left arm to make it more proportional.

In #1: she has flawless skin to start. In #3: the texture is there in the full size. ;)

I'm sorry, I don't. I did not learn from a book or classes. Just 1000's of hours in Photoshop since version 3.0. :D
