Hi All

I was trying to sell my 2 month old T3i here and have received poor/a couple of responses till date. Wanted to understand if I was putting a poor price on the item that could hamper a quick sell. (And yes I know I am new on this forum and have no substantial credentials yet). Thought of starting this thread which would help in aiding poor folks such as myself that will help me make a quick sell and get my 7D (and for many other folks for their items as well).

Also it will also give buyers some sort of idea of what kind of prices to expect from the market - so this works both ways. (Although there is always scope of a little negotiating).

So here it goes:

1. US T3i body (no marks no scratches) with 2 Zeikos batteries with all boxes and CDs and accessories that came in the original packaging (purchase price 673 USD). Pointers for best price......

PS: Mods may want to make this a sticky in the sell section if deemed useful.

The only thing you'll probably get for selling outside the FS Section is a stern reprimand...

Not a cool thing to do.

Well it cost $659.95 including free shipping for a brand new body with warranty at Amazon. I think you will have to lower your price a lot more if you want to sell it fast. Sell it on craigs list or ebay if you want to sell it.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I think your question has some merit.
Where you've gone wrong is actually including your pricing - it's like you're trying to get a for sale thread by stealth.
Try this...
Edit your original post to get rid of the pricing, but include a link to your FS thread so that those who are interested in your pricing structure can go to it if they want.
That may get you out of the poo with the Mods.

To answer your question...
Have a look on places like Craigs List (probably not the best guide), Ebay or the B & S board here and on other forums etc to see what other similar gear has sold for and then set your price based on that.
If you're trying to get all your money back, forget it.
You're going to have to wear some sort of loss - probably around 20% (maybe a bit more)
That's just the way it is selling second hand stuff.

You can probably answer this for yourself.

How much would you have to be saving against the best new prices to justify buying a slightly used item (there's only your word for how much use) from an unknown seller with no reputation and with no right to return and no contractual rights after purchase? I'd suggest you'll lose maybe 25% of the value.

For my money I'd rather pay the extra $60 and get a new item, straight from a store or website with some kind of warranty.

That's the problem with electronics- buy it at one price, and a few months later- not only has it depreciated on you because it is used, but the price on it for new also drops. Double whammy!

Nope, I would not buy it used at 93% of the now new price.. 20 to 25% or more - then I might consider it. Oh, you can never use what you paid for it as new- a new one is only worth what a new one sells for now- not what it sold for 2 or 3 months ago.

If an item does not sell the price is too high.

That pretty much sums it up with pun intended.

Your price way too high!

L lens's in good condition sell for 15% to 20% off new. Bodies 25% or more depending on shape and shutter count. High end cameras hold value better then entry level cameras. Off brand ( sigma and tokina/tamron) do not hold value as much as Canon lens's...but don't cost as much as well!! ( some exceptions). Remember, warrantees mean a lot...you can't be close to retail with no warrentee! You need to be around 500-525 to even see some serious hits IMO.

Price it right and it'll sell. I've had good luck selling on Amazon.

I usually start trying to sell here. (My asking prices are fair).
When I get too many low ball offers (happens a lot)
or when I revise the price down and still get ridiculous offers,
I go to local sites.

This works fine for me.

I think to sell here, you will have to beat the refurb or CLP price.

often times i don't get the prices folks put up here.
I've basically spent $25oo.oo here on a few items

with that said, as others have more or less stated why someone thinks we'll buy something that is only 10% less than the cost.
for me 25% is the number

You would be better off asking around $350-$400 if you're looking to sell it fast....
