My website host went down about 10 days ago. I had a long week trying to get back top again. I went through 4 hosting sites in 4 days. I learned 2 things. Picking a site is very confusing and I hate setting up HTML templates that's for sure.

I finally settled on Zenfolio. For $50 you can get unlimited storage but the Zenfolio brands their name on you site. For $100 they remove it. A bit of a rip off but you get a bunch more features. Zenfolio is a photography hosting site for photographers. You can set up pricing lists or disable them if you want and a whole bunch more.

One of the 2 things I found is that you cannot add a sound track for all the pages. If you use one on the home page it shuts off when you go to "my photos page". You can set up a different track for each gallery which is good option if you want it. Of course you can pick the same track for all your galleries but the tech stops when you go to the the my photos page and restarts when you do a slide show for particular gallery. Apparently the engineers are working on a continuous play option. My previous site did not have the option for a sound track so I played around with it for a few days but decided to not use tunes at all.

I found one glitch. There are 3 photo categories, All My Photos, Featured and Recently Added. In the recently added page you are supposed to be able to delete individual images from a gallery so you can show the latest ones. That feature is not working but it could be me. I have a help thing going with support on that now. If it is a glitch I will just delete the Recently Added page as it is not that important to me.

The things I really like is you can upload unlimited full sized TIFFs so you can sell them right from your site. Customers can view in any size they want. What I really like is you can scale the image size by gallery or individual image so they looks correct during the slide shows. Most other sites did not offer that.

Free templates and 14 day free trial at Zenfolio so you have nothing to lose.

I posted this question at Neil van Niekerk's site and the day after I decided to go with Zenfolio and paid for it Neil himself replied with this site. He said this is more of a web hosting site whereas Zenfolio more of a photo/business site. Since I already paid for Zen I'm just going to stick with it.

I like Big Black Bag (external link).

A LOT. Does everything, including e-commerce, lightbox, etc. Fully customizable. Easy to update, change, globally. I've used them for nearly three years.

Good luck!

Take a look at jalbum.net

The software works with Skins. Each Skin brings it's own theme, style, look, presentation format and features. There are loads of them and they are an open community resource.

There software creates and generates the galleries. The galleries may be stored on the JAlbum.net service or on your local system, CDs, DVDs, or your own Server.

Not sure if you mean an actual program, but I use Dreamweaver CS5 and an extension called XML Flash Slideshow (external link). If you're decently familar with HTML you should get along well enough.

There is just so much to pick from you can get a headache and I did. Not did it only take me a while day just to figure out who was my domain name registrar all this new stuff came along, flash, wordpress, joomba, HTML. I had never taken any interest in this so it was quite challenging.

OP, you didn't mention what you are doing with your photos.
Just for web viewing? Portfilio? Selling prints?

Zenfolio is a great site for either viewing or selling.
They have templates you can customize and depending on the account you choose, you can purchase and (or) sell your photos as prints and products.

Sorry, I should have posted a link in the message anyway, I just use Zenfolio for my galleries and the selling aspect and have a separate main website page. If I didn't have my separate main page, you can use the Zenfolio templates and make the main page look like you want it to look with matching galleries. I've tried others, but found that Zen is just so easy to work with.

Yes it is. I have found one minor glitch. There is a Recently Added category in the My Photographs menu on the home page. When in the edit page page you are supposed to be able to pick any gallery, select an image and then clock on Edit in the Access Control and set it up so that image will not be displayed when you open the Recently Added category. This way you can limit it to a few images per category. Not working. I did the help the support thing on the help line but have not heard back yet. Every other time I used the support they responded quickly. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Not a big deal as I'm not sure I like that category yet.
