All done in Smugmug.com Pro

http://www.michaeladkinsphotography.com/ (external link)

Almost total HMTL control, CSS, javascript, ....

Plus a shopping cart & credit card processing included (they take a %) if u want to sell prints.

U get a profit check monthly & a 1099 at the end of the year.

(I also use Dreamweaver CS5 to develop websites)

But the interface to make your own website in Smug is quite complex for the non-website-developer person!

Another Smugmug Pro user (signature below).. it's not that complicated, there's an entire forum at dgrin.com dedicated to helping people customize their site.

Yes it is. I have found one minor glitch. There is a Recently Added category in the My Photographs menu on the home page. When in the edit page page you are supposed to be able to pick any gallery, select an image and then clock on Edit in the Access Control and set it up so that image will not be displayed when you open the Recently Added category. This way you can limit it to a few images per category. Not working. I did the help the support thing on the help line but have not heard back yet. Every other time I used the support they responded quickly. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Not a big deal as I'm not sure I like that category yet.

I think I know what you are asking. I do believe that I saw a post on the Zen forums about it a while back but I don't have time to search., If I am understanding what you are looking to accomplish, I would just delete the link for "recent" and create a new category or gallery called "whatever recent bla bla" and then just add the photos that you wish to appear in that spot. This way, only the images you choose will appear there and you have total control.

On another note:
Yes Smugmug has a lot of user control with Style Sheets and HTML giving it an advantage if and only if you have those skills. If one doesn't have those skills, then they are at no more of an advantage than the Zenfolio templates (give or take). I would wonder why someone with those skills would not want to create their own main page anyway. Of course, this is not a knock on Smugmug as it is a great avenue for photo sales as is Zenfolio.

Remember, I have used both - I just liked the Zenfolio galleries and partnership with Mpix better....either way, I have my own separate main page.

There are probably 10,000 different wordpress themes. Some are blogs. Some are blog/websites. Some are websites. Some sell, some don't. Some are galleries. Some are for corporate.

Wordpress.org lets you download wordpress to install on your own server, it's very customisable. Wordpress.com is hosted blogs that are quite limited.

I'm with Tim on this one. When I originally posted I was using adobe cs5 suite, which I only use the photoshop part now, but wordpress.org is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier. Hence my website! It does have a teencie weencie learning curve. I love it and there are themes on the internet out the wahzoo!!!!! I got my theme from themeforest. Check out my website www.gerardpayne.com (external link) run using wordpress.org off godaddy.com servers and a http://themeforest.net/ (external link) theme.
