This is the " Movie Memphis Belle" taken at Thunder Over Michigan airshow 8/29-30/15. Have to admire those young men who put it all on the line back then ,they dont call them "The Greatest Generation" for nothing.

A bit of trivia for you,.... where the Thunder Over Michigan show is held at Willow Run Airport, is also the site where they made B-24's, so quite possibly your fathers airplane might very well have been assembled there.

Yes, I was aware of the Willow Run facility. In fact, my father and I attended the Thunder Over Michigan show at Willow Run in 2010 when it coincided with the 8th Air Force WWII Reunion in Detroit. That was quite a show - 8 B-17s (including the Memphis Belle) and 1 B-24 in the air at the same time, along with an escort of P-51s. My father and I also took a ride on the B-24, which took a lot of persuasion on my part to get my dad to go ("I flew 35 missions over Europe in one of those. Why would I ever want to get in one again?!")

Sorry to post color photos to this thread, but hey. It was incredibly inspiring to be in the presence of the few remaining original crew members of those old birds. They were true heroes.

Sorry for poor image quality; I took these with a little P&S. This was actually my inspiration to get better equipment!
