The word is "tranquility." This image proves people wrong who say every picture needs a clear center of interest. This image proves people wrong who say every picture needs a clear center of interest. airfrogusmc wrote in post #18354391 ![]() There a plenty of others also. A couple of famous photographers that fall into that are Arron Siskind and Ralph Gibson. I think some of the most interesting photographs are about, like you pointed, out a mood or how someone feels about what is being photographed and they try and show what that means to them instead of the obvious. Can a photograph be about a mood? About how a photographer feels about a shape or a color or a line or a place or even negative space? I say that's where the most interesting photographs are. One of the photography groups I'm involved with encourage the members to print and show images they've taken and discuss them, often starting with 'So, why did you take that photograph?' A lot of good debate comes from this with the owner commenting first and then others joining in with anything it means to them or evokes from them. It can be difficult to do this on forums, especially when you don't know the person posting the image and wonder how constructive critique will be taken. Personally, I'm more than happy to get feedback, good and bad, it's part of the learning curve and a second opinion can sometimes steer you onto the right track.

I'm not in any photography groups, and it surprises me that all of them don't include discussion of members' work. A lot of photography groups, certainly those I've been involved with here in the UK, are all about competition. In practice this means you submit your work with a title and a judge decides whether to place it based on their opinion. I got out of that rat race years ago, I really couldn't see the point in chasing a silver cup.
