The bottom image is a perfect example of problems that can occur with conversions. See the white line surrounding the plane?

I shoot my B&W with a Leica M Monochrom so those there is no conversion. Some things to watch when converting from color are over sharpening and how much you pull the color sliders when converting from raw. To much of those kind of things can be part of the problem.
