Little self-loathing on this end except that I should have done this before I went to Japan/China. I can feel that. I'm actually on the fence on a Zeiss 100mm Makro-Planar. Two in extremely good condition are available used for good prices. I need other things worse (my 2007 laptop is in a very dire place) but these don't show up used (like new, at that) often, and new it will cost me about $600 more at least. I think I might pull the trigger at lunch.

philmar Cream of the Crop More info | Oct 25, 2012 21:27 | #1235 Maybe the laptop just needs a new HD or RAM. Believe it or not, while I was in Japan/China I was dumping my photos on to a 2001 Fujitsu laptop. It is slow but for storing photos it is fine because I swapped the old HD for a new bigger one. A photo I took HERE published in National GeographicTime on your hands? Then HERE'S plenty more photos to nibble on

AceandDeuce Cream of the Crop More info | Oct 26, 2012 18:48 | #1239 Wasn't sure which way I wanted to go, B&W or Sepia. To me, a good B&W photo is a photo that you never even think of how it would look in color. I mess around with several pictures seeing how they look in B&W, but most look like a color photo turned B&W.
KISS old
KISS B&W

Are the leaves changing colour in Tokyo yet or is it too warm for that yet? Probably different story in the higher elevation mountains. Well, I use it for a lot of things -- and don't use it for photos unless I'm on the road. I use it for work on work trips, but at home, I use it for streaming video. Japan has changed it's law this month regarding downloading, so I'm streaming all my TV until they're a bit more clear on what exactly is kosher and what is not... or if they're actually going to do anything. So, assuming there's no bandwidth issue (which there is sometimes) I find the performance of streaming even Hulu to be... not up to snuff. It can play 720p mkv files just fine though.
