New Really Right Stuff TQC-14 tripod is in their new 2012 catalog.

I've been looking forward to see what they come out with in this area. Designed to match the BH-30 head.

It's not on their site yet though so you'll have to download the PDF to see it.

http://reallyrightstuff.com/WebsiteInfo.aspx?fc=91 (external link)

Has a built in column and 4 sections.

Folded length: 17.7 inches
Max height:48/59 inches
weight:2.6 lbs
max capacity 25lbs

I spoke to one of their customer service guys and he said they should be available in a couple of months.

You mean in real life or in photos ?

There's plenty of photos of it in the new catalog .....

I know it was mentioned in passing in the old catalog but this one is brand new and features a section on it.

Yes the new catalog has been out for a few weeks. I'm interested in the TQC-14 too, it looks good but isn't a fold back design so the min length is an inch longer than my Benro C2680T, although the weight is about the same. Also the max height without a ballhead is only 0.25" more than my Benro. There are no specs on leg diameter but it looks like the bottom section may take spikes. Too early to tell so as Ben says it's a case of waiting for user reports. I do wish Gitzo & RRS would provide full specs though...

Heavy and short for a travel tripod.

It's definitely the right size for me. They've designed the locking ring and base on the center column so that it limits the ballheads you can use. They state the ballhead must have a panning base max diameter of 53mm to fit into the sunken base so I suspect they've tried to make it proprietary to their BH-40 and BH-30 heads. However they might have a hard sell there as the Markins Q3T will fit nicely. They're selling it as a kit with the BH-30 so that is their preferred ballhead for the tripod but I don't think that ballhead matches up to the Q3T at all.

Both in person and user reviews.

Yea I saw that. Too bad too, because I have no desire to use that head they are selling with it. I love my Markins Q3T!

I'm going to try and stop by RRS when I head for Santa Barbara after Christmas. I'll check it out if they've got one there.

There's no mention of it in the catalog but it turns out that the tripod does support standard 3/8-16 thread screw-in feet, so that's great. The rubber feet that come with it are a bit smaller in diameter than the feet on the larger tripods, but their rock claw feet will screw into it. Benro and Gitzo spikes will also fit. A major flaw in the Gitzo travel tripods IMHO is that they don't support screw-in feet.

You know I only live like two and half hours from them and I still havent been there. Silly. I really should pay them a visit. Especially since they have taken so much of my money!

Is RRS using aluminum for their 1 series? If so, I'm somewhat surprised that they can keep the weight so low. I wonder how it'll compare to the Gitzo 1 series.

It's a carbon fiber tripod but the center column is aluminum, apparently for cost reasons.

This thread is over a year old. Has anyone seen an independent review of the TQC-14? You wonder if the tripod is selling. ???

You sure? I looked at their 2013 catalogue and no where does it say their 1 series tripod uses carbon fibre. It does say they're using a special type of aluminium.
