I always wanted to have enough time to worth through my catalog of wildlife images. I never expect to be quarantine at home for month and 1/2 either (I'm on day 9). Good news is that I've found lots of stuff I'd forgotten about. Bad news even this can be overdone! I'm working on updating my portfolio, and soon will be updating my website.

I have found a couple of images that qualify here from back in 2016. I hope you enjoy them!

Thanks Mike - this was taken in the morning when the Wasp was still quite sleepy and docile, although they don't seem to mind my presence even when awake and buzzing around (the wasps that is...):-)

They are approx. 8-10mm long (0.3 to 0.4 ins).

Cheers

Dennis

Wow, that is excellent, Dennis! Did you do focus stacking for this one? I want to pick up macro photography someday...

Getting that close to wasps somehow does not appeal to me. They can inflict a good deal of pain when they're in a bad mood.

Hi Sha

I manged to squeeze off 2 shots with the Wasp in the frame (tripod mounted rig) and with the shrub swaying in the breeze, the AF point landed on slightly different parts of the anatomy and I was able to combine the head and body parts in PS CC just using Layer Masks.

Cheers

Dennis

PS - here is the full res eye detail from the frame where the AF point was over the eye this one is as taken - i.e. not rotated).

Especially paper wasps! They must be a different species to those around Darwin, as ours are very aggressive and extremely, eye-wateringly painful when they sting and for about 10 minutes afterwards.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I hope you don't try to take those paper wasps on with your macro lens, Dennis.
