Nice images of the chicks, very cute.
The bokeh from this lens is interesting, too. They seem to have concentric rings, that look like an Airy disk.

Yes - the source of these diffraction patterns are drops of (out of focus) dew reflecting the Sun and they act like point sources of light. In some of these photos I have seen quite colourful examples.

Here is a full res 1600x1200 crop from the centre of one of the frames in the series.

You get the same effect with a telescope when you slightly defocus it, particularly on bright stars.

Cheers

Dennis

Fantastic close-up shot, Dennis! And I like the colorful, blurred background!

keeping up with the Plovers - Masked Lapwing (Spur-winged Plover) - Vanellus Miles
This was well and truly en garde today with two little plovers in toe. And this one was serious about attacking with vengeance. Not wanting to upset them I just retreated.
The spur is visible in its right wing

this Blackbird was thoroughly enjoying a scratch in the undergrowth where a large shrub had toppled. It was fascinating to watch from close quarters

Beautiful photo. Is that a hare? The only place I have had the chance to photograph hares was in Connemara in Ireland last summer. They are wonderful creatures to watch and they photograph well if you can get close enough. For ISO 1250, that photo is looking superb!
