Or even M + Auto ISO and use EC if you think Auto ISO is going too far one way or the other. I had a 5D3 & this worked quite well, for me.

5d3 does not have Exposure compensation in M +Autoiso. I think it is in 5d4.
My1dIV has it and I use it a lot.
