Dave,
That is a great shot. he must have been hard to find as he tends to blend in to the background

Thanks ! They were actually very prevalent, as there were several pairs working on building nests.

Rufus owl with prey ( Bat) from weekend . Hard shot to get as had to juggle shutter speed, aperture and ISO with some fill flash as it was in dense dark bush at dusk. And to make it worse handheld. Also First time in quite a while Ive had to resort to F2.8 on my 400mm prime which means a very narrow DOF and not all subject matter(Like his dinner as well ) is sharp . But as I dont get to see many of these guys that often and even better get to get a shot of them so I will take it :)

Great shot Clipper! Reminds me of the time about 10, maybe 12 years ago, the Australian Ballet came to Darwin (I think the only time they've been here) for a free show at the Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre. I took my daughter for a cultural experience. Halfway through 'Giselle', one of the resident pair of rufous owls flew low across the audience with a fruit bat in its talons, landed in the scaffolding above the stage and proceeded to eat it right above the dancers, the bat protesting loudly (while it could). Welcome to Darwin, ballet dancers! :-D

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
