One Tui!

The Tui is a very melodic song bird that looks beautiful, as it has iridescent plumage that changes with the light, and great wattles under its beak. It's song is lovely to hear, even in the middle of the night, but it has a dark side: monstering and sometimes killing other birds. They are very busy at this time of year.

My curiosity is piqued. How did you know it was a young female?

Inspeqtor wrote in post #19328953 (external link)
I was thinking of asking the same question!!! How can you tell the difference between a M/F frog??

At least amongst Australasian Tree Frogs, it is only the males that call. In species where there is no obvious sexual dimorphism, therefore, the males have a more pronounced throat pouch.

Here for example is a male Green Tree Frog with a large pouch:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2mVTY1H (external link) First frog photo for the year! (external link) by Stephen Mudge (external link), on Flickr

And a female without a pouch:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2mWoeT8 (external link) Green Tree Frog (external link) by Stephen Mudge (external link), on Flickr

Of course some species show clear sexual dimorphism where the males and females look quite different. You will see an example of that in the image that I'm about to post :-)

A pair of Stony Creek Frogs in amplexus, looking for a bit of privacy...

That's the smaller bright yellow male on top and the larger brown female below.
