This Bluebottle Blowfly was sunning itself on a wooden beam in the back garden and didn't seem to mind me taking a few shots.:-)

This face on shot is a composite of two frames with the AF on the eyes and then manually moved to along the body, to extend the DOF.

Taken with the Canon RF 100mm F2.8L IS USM macro lens (not yet in database).

Cheers

Dennis

One word came to mind...."WOW" what an amazing shot.

When I see a picture of a bat I am reminded of when I was a kid 2 or 3 times a year a bat would get inside our home that would scare the bejeebers out of me, but they were MUCH MUCH smaller than the variety shown in your picture thankfully maybe 1/10 the size of your bat.

We would have to try and kill it as it flew around with a straw broom.

Yes, these ones are about the size of a cat... not something you would chase with a broom!

Forest Raven ~ Corvus tasmanicus at our kitchen window.
Unusual as they are very wary birds, gone at the first hint of a human.
This one has taken to our windows and my ute bumper in quite a vigorous way. Makes a heck of a mess of the window, not to mention the noise :-)

Thanks Richard! Yes, "Green Tree Frog" doesn't sound nearly as good as Pobblebonk :)

Nice shot, Richard. The local Torresian Crows up here are very wary as well, which has always surprised me given their size.

The bats we used to get were probably about the size of a mouse or a small rat in comparison.

We have many species of those microbats in Australia too, Charles. They eat insects and roost in caves. The big ones--fruit bats or flying foxes--live on fruit and nectar, and roost in the trees of shady forest (and sometimes shady gardens).

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
