Pippan Cream of the Crop ![]() More info Post edited 2 months ago by Pippan. | Nov 27, 2022 02:53 | #30619 BirdsofBC wrote in post #19450533 ![]() that must be a wild cow and kitty cat then. I was told that although many subjects that actually aren't looking at you(camera) are indeed SECRETLY looking at you(camera). I've always taken this thread to mean that the subject appears to be saying (or thinking): "Are you (photographer/camera) looking at me?" So it would not be a requirement for the subject to be looking at the camera, although often that would be the case. They could appear to be bashfully, or fearfully, or even flirtatiously, looking away, for example. As long as it looks like that's what they're thinking. Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Capn Jack Cream of the Crop ![]() More info Post edited 2 months ago by Capn Jack. | Nov 27, 2022 08:15 | #30623 BirdsofBC wrote in post #19450533 ![]() that must be a wild cow and kitty cat then. I was told that although many subjects that actually aren't looking at you(camera) are indeed SECRETLY looking at you(camera). I suppose that is one interpretation, although that's not was intended. Here's what was written: Capn Jack wrote in post #19449693 ![]() You've made similar comments before, and I'll question it in some cases. I'll note that you can be 90° to the side of some animals such as a rabbit and they will still be looking at you even if their head isn't turned. Prey animals tend to have their eyes placed so they can look at something that is mostly behind them. https://azretina.sites.arizona.edu/node/279 ![]() So the widgeon in this image could very well be looking at @fotoi You may have a point about wild "kitty cat" but the cow should stay as per the wild life forum description:

I've always taken it to mean that the subject is looking at the camera. Your interpretation requires that the creature's gaze appears to embody a questioning attitude. That's hard to establish for something like a duck. PRONOUN ADVISORY: OhLook is a she. | A FEW CORRECT SPELLINGS: lens, aperture, amateur, hobbyist, per se, raccoon, whoa | Comments welcome

Thanks Mike, its a bit hit and miss with these insects as more often than not, the pre-flash spooks them and I end up with a blurred fly, exiting the frame via a top corner.
