You can tell when the plan is in place and the seed bin is in danger... The look of determination comes over them as they work out the small details...

I am puzzled by the shallow DOF at f/8.

I used the 100-400LII + 1.4III plus distance to the subject Sibil.. these are uncropped.

Thanks, Im a bit spoiled with these birds being so common here, I forget how pretty they can look, the bush grows wild on roadside around here

I certainly do envy you. Your birds and other wildlife are amazing in Australia.

At least you can see or hear a bear 'quite' easy, but your poisonous spiders for example are silent as silent can be....no give me a bear (not that there are any here on Crete) any day. :p

Just to get your heart racing! All spiders are venomous but almost all, like this big girl (her body is 40mm - 1 1/2" long), are harmless. Unless you're one of her boyfriends like the little orange ones on the web. If so, you're more likely than not to be eaten during or after copulation.

But I've walked through their webs and had them on my face: no drama!

Pippan, I guess I'm in the minority, because I really don't mind spiders. Like you, I've walked through their webs, and had them crawling on me. We have one spider out here that I tend to avoid. It's the black widow, and I've been bitten by one as a kid. It was not pleasant (I got pretty sick). Even our very large tarantulas are not poisonous to humans, and it's always fun to find one in the wild. They are non aggressive and we've let them crawl on us numerous times when we find one. I like the fact that spiders catch and eat many insects that are unpleasant, such as flies, and mosquitoes.

I have to agree, that is a GOOD thing about spiders.

The only really dangerous spiders in Australia are Sydney funnelwebs and, to a much less extent as they are not aggressive, redbacks (which are related to black widows). There have been no deaths since antivenom was developed in 1981 for funnelwebs and 1958 for redbacks. There are a few others that can give a painful bite if really threatened. The reputation of white-tailed spiders for releasing necrotising venom is an urban myth; same for recluse/fiddleback spiders (in Australia) releasing haemotoxic venom. Reference this Australian Geographic (external link) article. Bees kill far more people than spiders, and of course mosquitoes, the most dangerous animal in world, kill hundreds of thousands of people each year by spreading diseases like zika and malaria, neither of which we have in Australia (we do have other mosquito borne diseases but deaths from them are very rare). So come visit us! I can almost guarantee you'll make it home. :)
