I just got a new S2 a couple weeks ago and need to upgrade the memory card. Through some research on the net there seems to be a great price diff in the 1GB cards. I am by no means a professional (this camera seems to be out of my leage, but I am trying to learn. ) Can anyone tell me if there is any pros to spending 180 on a ultra II 2GB versus a $50 1GB(besides the double capacity). Thanks

joe

You could probably get by with the slower $50 card but you *may* get interuptions while filming videos. I found the Sandisk Ultra II 1Gb card to be a happy medium between speed, price, and capacity (350+ high res photos). $89 delivered from http://zipzoomfly.com (external link) Will probably buy a spare once the prices come down as they always eventually do.

Mecdave is right on. my 512 card is a plain sandisk and works great. If your going to video the faster cards work better. Also seems that formating the card before you shoot helps.
Love my S2 had it about a month. Keep reading the book the camera does lots of stuff.

Joe - It's better to have 2 Ultra II 1 GB CF cards then one 2 GB CF card. If one CF card breaks down you can continue shooting with te other.
If you have only one CF card and that breaks down you can't continue shooting and you loose 2 GB of shooting instead of 1 GB.
IMHO go for the Sandisk CF cards. I have 5 of them and untill now I had no problem whatsoever. Good luck.

Good advice, just don't get CF (Compact Flash) cards for your S2 IS. The S2 uses SD (Secure Digital) cards.

Sorry, my mistake. You'r right. In the S2 IS SD cards are used. I have several of both and so sometimis I'm confused.

Thank you for correcting me. Good luck.
