Facing north from my friends parents places out past Reagan Wells. ~50 minute exposure. It seems there was a bit of light pollution coming from that area. That was my 2nd attempt at star trails. Started at around 4am. This was also taken with the Canon 10-22 at f/3.5 ISO 125. I def like it and I was happy it came out. I have one of Orion, but for some reason it looks really bad when I resized it (jpeg compression really took a toll on it).

Any pointers?

Wow! it must be really dark there if you can take a single 50 min exposure. You could get the sky darker i you did 50 1 min exposures and use StarTrails, or StarTrax

Yeah. I was kinda out in nowhereville. No major cities. San Antonio and Del Rio were about 100 miles away in either direction. I did try some shorter exposures, but didn't do it right. Did a few at 30 seconds and totally forgot to do mirror lock up.

This was one of my first attempts. Next time I'll be ready to try a few things and bring my spare batteries.

The hard part is trying to get focus. I kept taking short exposures to check focus. What is the best way to set focus for star pics?

Hello Ed,
I have attempted star trails a few times when at a dark area. For focus, I use manual, set focus to infinity, and then turn it back slightly and have had good results. Nice job.
