Today I had to send back the Canon 1d Mk IV that I had on loan from Canon CPS. I was so tempted to just buy it but the wife said no and to wait and see what the prices will do once the X comes out in March.

Don't expect the prices to come down on the IVs once the X is released.

Yeah not a significant price drop and anyone thinking it will be major, in for a surprise.

...which is what exactly?

Ladies just don't understand boys' toys do they. Mine tries very hard but no amount of hints over the weekend about my 70-200mm being too short for that perfect woodpecker shot have given me the result I wanted. (There are so many euphemisms in that, none intentional I assure you...) (Or maybe they were double-entendres - I get confused).

People say the IV won't drop in price with X coming out, but I beg to differ. I totally expect them to drop a few hundred. It may not be a huge drop, but I think we will will below $4,000 common on the resale market. Down from the $4200-4400 prices today.

I think people are just in denial that don't like the 1Dx that their beloved 1D IV will keep its value. Once the reviews pour in raving how amazing the 1Dx is people will unload the IV's... And the resale market will get competative for a sale, just like with any other older body in the past.

That price point might take time...a long time.

MKIII's are going for about 2k depending on shutter count and condition

MKIV's will hold near 4k for a while depending on shutter count and condition. Not many are going to rush out and drop an extra 3k on a 1Dx unless its significant improvement over the IV. Its supposed to be 2 stops on the iso, so that is huge, but is it enough and worth the extra 3K...im thinking not for me

Until Canon develops another high end camera to fill the 4500-5000.00 price bracket for pros,,,,1DMKIV will hold value very well,,,,count on it.

Tell your wife it's either the 1D4 now, or else you're getting the X later.
