Simple question.

B&H Price is $2229.00 w/ free shipping and no tax.
Canon online is $2118.94

A little over $110 savings. I would put the savings toward an additional battery and a new CF card.

With the refurb, will I have any surprises that I might not be thinking of? Damage, high shutter count, etc..

I bought new, but refurb is probly a good deal. Some have probems, but so do some new cameras. Some have been known to come with fewer than 50 shutter actuations. Ordering from B&H saved me the taxes up front, though they will, of course, be reported later...

Refurbs are rarely in stock for long, if you are going to buy it, buy it now.

Personally I've has such good experience with Canon service centers, if the refurbished one came with a 1 year warranty I'd pay more for it than new. From my experience it is more likely to be free of any defects.

Unfortunately though I've had too much experience with the service centers because of relatively new equipment failures (all in warranty)!

But I pretty much feel now like sending everything I buy to a service center to get checked out. So far 2 cameras and one lens and they have come back cleaner and/or more reliable than new. I just don't really want to be without equipment that seems to work OK for a couple of weeks.

For instance my 5DII just started getting Err80 a few days ago and although it hasn't happened since I will certainly send it in sometime before the warranty expires, even if I don't get that message again. I'll probably give them a list of things to check from that to AF and/or metering, and it will likely come back nice and clean and with any problem parts replaced.

Of course that's just my experience so far.

Buy from Henry's Camera in Canada. $1999 + shipping +conversion fees from your bank.
That adds up to around $2070 with express shipping from an authorized Canon dealer with USA/CAN warranty.
New camera for less than a refurb.

+1. My friend got it for $2009 including the conversion fees for the exchange rate for that day. With today's exchange rate it could be even less.

I've had good luck with the refurb store, but for a $100 difference I'd go with new.

Henry's is not the only one selling a 5D 2 for CAD $1999. There are other authorized dealers in Canada too. Look at this link

Aden camera is another authorized dealer selling a 5D 2 for $1999.

My 5D2 from Henry's only cost me $1,981 after the conversion to US currency and a $50 conversion fee from AMEX. Well worth it. My gripped 5D2 came out to $2,181, which is cheaper than some are selling their used 5D2 bodies on the marketplace!

When I bought a refurbed 50D through Canon's Loyalty Program I was charged sales tax (6.25%) for my state and shipping ($10). If your state has sales tax, which most do, consider that in your cost. You may find buying new is a better deal.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

New. $100 on a $2100 purchase is nothing.

After all of everyone's great input, i pulled the trigger on a new 5D from B&H. Oh, and I added 2-16GB CF cards as well as a spare battery.

$2300 out the door and I will have my dream body by Thursday!:lol:

My 5D2 I bought as refurb... It had like 16 shutter uses and was mint as could be. No issues at all! It has been trouble free for months now. At the time, I saved like $300 or so when I bought it versus new and about the same price as used bodies.

I have bought a few Canon refurbs, and all have been really good. I bought my 85L as a refurb and it was flawless in every way.
