Residual Oil Remover - sub par

I'm pretty sure it's just diluted ammonia re-packaged.

The stuff is terrible. It has gotten my lens dirtier than it already was. It leaves residue on the coating and I don't need it.

I washed it off with water and then used the good old cotton cloth (a t-shirt) to wipe clean the glass.

Now it looks as new.

Don't buy the stuff.

Best thing...breathe on the lens, then wipe with a microfiber lens cloth.

Can you recommend a good microfiber cloth? I have two different ones and they leave the microfibers on the lens.

I use one called Photo-Clear. It is distributed by Schneider Optics, the LF lens and enlarger lens company.

You probably used too much of the solution on your cleaning cloth. All it takes is one very light misting of the solution on the cloth to do a good job. I have been using it for years. It was recommended to me by Hasselblad's repair techs who use it to clean lenses.

I've also heard that ROR is the best thing to clean Hoya filters, which have a bad cleaning reputation.
