Paramecium

Everybody likes these guys. They move around very fast, so it's hard to get good images of them. For these, I used a phase contrast condenser to produce oblique lighting, that brings out the normally invisible parts. All were shot using a 20x Nikon Plan Apo lens for roughly 200x magnification and captured with a Canon T1i.

Thanks Brian and Bas. You probably heard me mention that I have have a new toy for the microscope. It makes this new 'oblique' lighting very easy, but that's not even it's main use. It's supposed to be used for 'Phase Contrast' lighting, which makes clear things on the slide, just jump out into a very contrasted look so you can see all the internal parts of the organism, especially the connections between the parts. It's the difference between night and day.

Unfortunately, you need to use special objective lenses, made to be used with this phase condenser. And I don't have any yet. Maybe Santa will bring some.

Think you are getting very good structure resolution with your existing setup. I used to do a lot of microscopy in my younger days and was never that keen on phase contrast especially for photography.

Brian, I was never taken with what I have seen of phase contrast either. I have no plans for getting all the lenses for all 4 stops. Maybe only a 20x. But after a year of nothing but Brightfield and what I could do with hand cut paper filters, I will need something to keep my interest. The scope I have is not capable of DIC unfortunately.
