Here the situation. I wanting to shoot tethered to a laptop #1 which is auto importing into LR3 to a external drive. Then I want to share that drive on my network and then import into LR3 using laptop #2. I will be shooting jpeg+raw but importing jpeg only on laptop #2. From session to session my assistant will be importing jpeg to laptop #2 for proofing. Don't get this confused with trying to network LR3. I know it can be done, but I have not been successful at it yet. Will this work with LR3?

Sure, though I'm not sure about sharing the drive and using the same directory (source files) for both copies of LR3.. Here's what I would do, and I'm not saying this is the 'right' way, just how I would go about it.

Shoot tethered to Laptop 1, image is imported into LR3

Run a program like Belvedere (external link) to monitor the directory on Laptop 1 where the images are landing, and automatically copy new .jpgs (new shots) to a folder on laptop 2 via network

Laptop 2 has LR3 monitoring the local folder that is receiving the copied JPGs, and then import those jpg's

Since I don't have an assistant, I've never tried to edit/import at the same time.. So I don't know if LR3 can monitor the directory for importing while someone else is editing in LR3 on the same laptop.. You may have to wait for LR to import all of the images on laptop 2 before your assistant can begin proofing..

Another option might be to set up the folder where laptop #1 stores the files as watched folder on laptop #2.

But if that's going to work (never tried) I'd assume laptop #2 would import both jpg and CR2…
