I just wonder that Can the Canon EF 2X be used with Canon 100mm L IS USM ? Some people says there is a problem about controlling the F value and AF? Is it true?

And what is the magnification and the closest distace for Auto Focusing when I use this combination?

Is the situation same for Canon 100mm USM Macro?

The 100L is not compatible with the Canon TCs (acording to Canon) in the case of the 100 classic it physically interferes and can only be used with a tube between the TC and lens.

The 180L is compatible with the TCs.

The 100L, 100 classic, 180L and EF-S 60 macros all achieve up to life size linear magnification.

I think he meant when used in combination with a teleconvertor. There are 3rd party options like Kenko that work fine with the 100mm macro lenses, but I do not know what effect there is on magnification when using them,

Also to consider, I believe that you could get better image quality using a 200mm lens with extension tubes than you would get using a 100mm macro with a 2x TC. Might need a lot of tubes to get a 200mm lens to 1:1 magnification, though.

Actually , I like 100mm L , but the working distance is a problem for me! And I wanna know the relation between TC's & Working Distances & and Magnifications bw!

Yeah, both the 100mm macros are very nice and I really liked the one I had.

It is the TC that is the problem.

I hate when the problems exist

I think this is the reason why I 've been using reversed lens

Yes the magnification increases, to expand a TC does not change the minimum focus distance but it increases the focal length and reduces to max apature, a 2X make a 100/2.8 into a 200/5.6 for example and the max magnification will be twice life size.

There is a quality loss with TCs however, another way to get to twice life size is to use about 70mm of tubes, better image quality but you loose infinity focus and the minimum focus distance is reduced.

Yes I realise that now, actualy I did tests on the kenko with the 100 classic and was not that impressed.
