Built from 1972 to 1986, the SD40-2 features a 3000 horsepower, 16 cylinder turbocharged prime mover. Six DC traction motors can create speeds up to 65 mph and 92,000 pounds of starting tractive effort. General Motors EMD produced 3,957 units during the production run.

All my images are clickable links to larger versions on black. Thanks for looking. If you want to add your own SD40-2s to the post, feel free.

those SD40s ride super smooth too, even smoother than some wide bodies... only thing I hate is that they don't have a desk in front (but a chair to prop your legs on though), no AC and no separate phone/mic for the conductor side.

Not all SD40-2s are without AC....even these old Conrail units are equipped.

Here's a few....

IC 6007 sits stored on the deadlines at the CN shops in Homewood, IL in January 2010

CN (GTW) 5932 on the deadlines at the CN shops in Homewood, IL - January 2010. Next to it sits one of the last remaining SD40-2's from the Wisconsin Central (by now they may both be gone, who knows)

CSX still has a bunch of SD40-2's running, as does Helm's. Here's one coming through my home town:

Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to have a photo show here by being loaded from my website?

I've read the FAQ's but they don't make sense to me :).

Not sure if this link will work as is:

http://algomacentral.railfan.net …C_186_Sault_10-4-1973.jpg (external link)

This photo is of an Algoma Central SD40-2 taken the day it was delivered. It is an early phase unit with the older style radiator intake grills. I was lucky that the sun came out from under dark sides for just a few minutes while I was there....

I'd like a smaller photo show up here like the ones above, as well as being clickable to the larger version on my site :)

Thanks!

Ted

I have my pictures on Flickr and then copy and paste the BBC/URL code for the image into my reply. Not sure what type of website you have, but you probably have an image location that you could use to post in your message.

Here's a pair of SD40-2's going through Stones River Battlefield. The lead is an HLCX lease unit.
