Super 8 makes things so easy, just drop the cartridge in and go, and you get the full 50' in one length, so a 3 minute shot is a possibility. I started cinematography with an old Standard 8 camera, but it was powered, and even had a power zoom. Spooling the film in was fun, as was having to flip the film over to run the second half. For those that don't know the Standard 8 format used a 25' length of 16mm film, which you ran through the camera twice, the film was then split lengthways and spliced together during processing, to give you your full 50' length. This meant you could only shot for about a minute and a half before reloading the film. To get the 3 minutes from the 50' of film, you had to shoot at only 18 fps IIRC. When I got a Super 8 camera with the cartridge I thought christmas had come.
Oh and I still remember the address of the UK Kodachrome lab: Kodak, PO Box 1, Hemel Hempstead, Herts. I filled out no end of those bags that came with the film, cine and 35mm. Post it off, and about a week to ten days later you got that wonderful yellow package back though the post that you could not wait to open, and get in the projector.
Thanks for the picture, and the chance to reminisce, even if it is mostly to myself.
