What you Charles! Nobody would believe that.

Just a cheapo for very small desktop projects, Pippan.
A Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder to be precise, Dennis. I have used it for demonstration. The ball focuses on a chart and the when the sun shines it burns a line across the chart. The chart is calibrated in hours and the burnt trace measured to give the sunshine hours. The chart has to be changed daily and the chart type changed for the winter season. I have quite a few charts for it. There are also charts for 'down under' if you can find them.
For some time I have been considering starting a scientific instrument thread. I have just done that and you will find it at .......
Scientific Instruments (Pre 1950'ish) I hope you are able to contribute.
I considered antique instruments some time after collecting cameras. I still follow some online auctions, but my place is overrun with old cameras that the wife considers "dust collectors" so for now I only look. I follow Grant "firebottles" on ebay and have bought some cameras from him, so I'm always tempted when a microscope or some other instrument comes up. I've also looked at analytical balances as well, and may go for one someday. I've been an R&D chemist for almost 40 years now, so I'm especially tempted by old polarimeters, refractometers, weights and balances - things I've used or understand. But microscopes, telescopes, and weather instruments also interest me. I do look forward to your thread, even if it costs me money after looking!
