Very nice looking camera there doc! I never knew about liquid electrical tape. I would think that would do a good job on the holes, unless that is, IF the liquid is CLEAR!! LOL

Brave man, Charles, I didn’t like to show my ignorance and ask.-?

I have shown my ignorance a few times on this forum......

Of all the cameras that I have, this camera is the one that means the most to me.
In the early 1970's my father bought this camera kit. This exact camera is the one that he introduced me to photography with, he taught me how to use it and it wasn't long before I was using it much more than he was.
After a few years, my dad gave the camera to me and I have had it ever since. All together this camera has been in my possession for forty five years give or take a couple.
This camera is all original along with the original case, flash, lenses and other accessories including the cleaning paper packs.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

This is the first camera I bought my son to introduce him to the hobby 20+ years ago. By then there were models with autofocus and autoexposure, but I wanted him to learn the exposure triangle and the effect of aperture on depth of field for focusing. Today he has a complete understanding of all that, even though his present Canon has all the modern options. I still have his K1000 and a few of his manual lenses packed away in a closet. Yours looks mint, and I'm not surprised it still works. It's the "KISS" factor. Great memories...

A bit of my camera history - I bought my first SLR when I was a poor student in the early 70s. I found the Praktica in a department store at the same time I was drooling over a new Nikon F I couldn't possibly afford. I don't remember the price, but it had to have been really, really cheap new. It served me well until I graduated college and found a job. A simple camera - TTL stop-down metering by CdS cell, shutter speeds from 1 to 1/500 sec, and Meyer Oreston 1.8 lens. The ISO (then ASA) range was 6 to 1600 - I'd push Tri-X 1-2 stops in a kitchen closet at night. I'm still surprised at the quality of some of the photos from those days, but we didn't pixel-peep back then...

Found this guy at a flea market. Wanted $20.00 for it. Turns out, it's a medical Olympus with a circular focusing screen with reticle.

It's very clean, and seems to work perfectly. I'm running film through it now, but there's nowhere to get it processed at the moment. I'll have to wait and see.

Always wanted one of them, so I'm happy.

Interesting tripod setup.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

A Leica and a Campbell sunshine recorder in the same photo -very cool. Have you used the recorder? I'm just a scientific instrument geek...

My camera history continued...

After college and the start of a career in the early 80s I thought I would finally get that Nikon F, until I found a review in one of my photography magazines of the Contax RTS with Zeiss T* lenses. What could be more tempting than a camera designed by Porsche, made by Yashica, with the best German Zeiss lenses tested to date? Electronic shutter with speeds of 1 to 1/2,000 sec, interchangeable focus screens, full aperture center weighted exposure system (silicon silicon diode) with ISO range of 12 to 3,200. The camera was a joy to use for years until I finally (begrudgingly) went digital with a Canon 5DII. It still works, although I rarely get to shoot film anymore. This camera was so loved for many years and has a lot of miles on it. The upside - I was able to convert the lenses to Canon.

A Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder to be precise, Dennis. I have used it for demonstration. The ball focuses on a chart and the when the sun shines it burns a line across the chart. The chart is calibrated in hours and the burnt trace measured to give the sunshine hours. The chart has to be changed daily and the chart type changed for the winter season. I have quite a few charts for it. There are also charts for 'down under' if you can find them.
For some time I have been considering starting a scientific instrument thread. I have just done that and you will find it at ....... Scientific Instruments (Pre 1950'ish) I hope you are able to contribute.

I considered antique instruments some time after collecting cameras. I still follow some online auctions, but my place is overrun with old cameras that the wife considers "dust collectors" so for now I only look. I follow Grant "firebottles" on ebay and have bought some cameras from him, so I'm always tempted when a microscope or some other instrument comes up. I've also looked at analytical balances as well, and may go for one someday. I've been an R&D chemist for almost 40 years now, so I'm especially tempted by old polarimeters, refractometers, weights and balances - things I've used or understand. But microscopes, telescopes, and weather instruments also interest me. I do look forward to your thread, even if it costs me money after looking!

Not a camera but a very necessary item of photographic equipment from the 1950s into the 80s and 90s. Coupled exposure meters began to be fitted on cameras as standard c 1970-1980. This type of exposure meter used a selenium light cell and a sensitive moving coil meter movement.

Top picture. Two Weston Master III meters. One on the left a Universal Exposure Meter and on the right one for cine.

Olympus Pen E. This is a Half Frame 35mm camera. Half Frame cameras took 72 shots on a standard 35mm film cassette - usually you could squeeze about 80 shots out of a 36 exposure cassette. A nice little pocket camera of the time. I purchased this one in 1963.
Here I have shown it fitted with the Petri exposure meter.
