A friend of mine is stuck in Europe with a faulty power diaphragm on her 100L. Canon representatives and service on the Balkans are nothing to write home about and she is desperate to get her fave lens fixed.

Is it worth the lens to be shipped to US in order to be repaired by Canon USA? Did anybody have a similar problem and how much (approximately) they gonna charge her. Is it a good idea to talk to them or would they advise me to send the lens in for a quote first. You see I'm trying to prevent all the shipping costs and hassle if Canon US would be way too expensive.

Any advice of yours would be highly appreciated!
Thanks!

Canon lens warranties are valid worldwide. Is the lens still within warranty?

I don't know where she is in the Balkans, but if she is doubtful about the Canon service centers where she is, maybe look into sending the lens to Germany or Holland where the centers have a good rep.

Canon Elstree in the UK have been good for me if she wants to send it to an English speaking country that's not as far away as the US

Check out the best circumstances for customs with export/import for repair, some countries might be a nuisance.
