Before I send the camera for repair, I thought I'd check here to see if there is anything else I should try.

Problem: 7D worked fine with the USB connection and the Promote Control. Also worked with USB connection to computer. Now it will not connect to the Promote Control or the computer. (note - I was shooting with the promote control and all was fine. Unplugged it, came back 30 minutes later and kept getting the "connect to USB message.")

Tried the following:

1)Promote Control with Canon 5DMII - works fine.
2)7D USB connection to computer (several different ones) - does not show up
3)Reset all camera settings - no difference
4)Updated to Firmware 1.25 - no difference

This leads me to believe there is a problem with my USB port/connection on the camera itself. Anyone have any ideas before I ship it off? Thanks.

If using a USB cable, try a different one for all functions and see what happens.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

Thanks for the response, stsva. Seems to make no difference - in all cases where I can't get it to recognize the 7D, computer and controller work fine with the 5DMII.

Sounds like a dead USB connection. Presume you hard reset the 7D (remove both batteries)? If so think a dead USB - there was a thread yesterday with someone else with that problem.

You can try another USB connection on the computer if you have more than one. I've seen a similar problem fixed by moving to a different USB hub on the computer.

Yes but that wouldn't explain the 7D to Promote connection failure.

Thanks again for the feedback. I probably wasn't clear in my first post - I tried it on 3 different computers, and no luck. And yes, as lungdoc says, the promote remote works on the 5DII but not the 7D.

I did check out the post referenced by lungdoc ( I swear I ran search every which way, but never brought that one up :) ) - the symptoms described there are the same as mine, although the OP seemed sure that he(she) had physically damaged the USB port on the camera.

So ... off to Canon, and hoping my first attempt to use the AMEX protection plan coverage helps.
