I like the background more than the foreground. Did you use flash?
Chris.

Just the built in flash on my powershot.

May I ask what it is supposed to mean that you like the background better...cause to me you are just saying the photo sucks. If that's the case... I'm fine with that.

Thanks! They are awesome birds! My favorite. I used to run equipment in the bush living in a camper for the summer and you start to know and recognize the ones that come back. They are very smart and quite amusing!!! I had plenty of laughs watching them.. If only I had my DSLR at that time!! Man, I could have got some awesome shots!

I like the raven but the foreground is a bit washed out and my eyes are drawn to the background to get it focus. Looks like an oil painting. Don't mean any offense.
Thanks for sharing.

Not offended, just wondering. I attempted to fix it a little as I do see what you mean...what do you think? I just used the burn tool...not sure if there is a better way to do this or not.

As you have Image Editing OK on, I took your jpeg to PS. I took it to Shadows/Highlights, corrected Gamma and used curves to try to bring out some of the detail in the wood. Also increased contrast a bit.

And by the way, I think it's a wonderful shot of a bird that I would love to see someday.

@Levna, I do have a question however...how do you just adjust the detail in the wood so the raven and background don't get all distorted?

I'm glad you like the edit. :) It would be better on the raw file though, as you can only do so much with a jpeg, but it still does look pretty good I think.
It's a simple job really: layers and masks. I selected the wood, reversed that selection and turned it into a mask. That way what you do affects the wood only and leaves the rest as is. Although the bit of contrast that I added in the end, I applied to the entire image.
