just received my 400mm f2.8 from b&h. first impressionas are, HOLY %$#@ look at the size of this bad boy !!!!

any tips from the pros on looking after my new family member ?

mainly using it for motorsport work.

Congrats, that quite a big baby you've got there! Unfortunately, I have no experience with them so you'll have to hear from the pro's on how to take care of it!

This is a really heavy prime as you will now realise. It is best used mounted on a monopod but not with any kind of head or QR system as that becomes the weak point of attachment (as well as being useless anyway). Carry it with camera attached, hood on, attached to monopod, over your shoulder with camera in front and hood behind. If you get the monopod extended to about knee level then it gives more balance.

Use a blower to clean the dust from the camera end, not forgetting to remove the filter when you do. For the front lens a good microfibre and simply breathe on the glass. The rubber around the hood rim is there to allow you to 'park' the lens, hood down on the ground - and no, I am not kidding.
