This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 4:00 pm Eastern time Fiday 9 December 2011 (I am in the military and will be in the field until then.) Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Please visit Image Posting Rules.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work-safe.
8. Have questions, PM me.
9. Have FUN!

Airfrogusmc – “Combat Veteran” The contrast and emotion in this photo is flawless. His eyes tell where he’s been and his expression shows a mournful wisdom. Your capture makes me want to listen to his story. Thanks for your entry.

UK_Tomcat_Fan – “Pearl Harbor Survivor” I love your aircraft photography. Couldn’t be a more perfect time for this photo to be entered “70 years after it’s trials” In this one I wish the pilot and more of the fuselage was visible. Great photo and thanks for your entry.

Maureen Souza – “Site of the Battle of New Orleans” I like this photo and can only imagine what it was like for the soldiers to stand their ground and fight behind those cannons. I wish none of the tree was cut off. I know it’s not the subject, but I focus on that fact when look at the photo. Thanks for entering (and the PM last competition)

Kevan – “Gauntlets, of the weekend chore variety” I feel the internal strife when I see this image. LOL. It invokes thoughts of strain and frustration. Nicely done and thank you.

Surgeonhawkeye – “no title” Nice sharp photo, but I wish it had more of a point of view. Maybe the background containing the battle field instead of just sky. Thanks for your entry, but I can’t consider your photo due to the title rule. Sorry I PM’d you so late.

Philk54 – “Defense of the Union - Fort Sumter” Another cool photo that makes me wonder what they must have gone through. On this one I wish I could see the area the gun team had to work with. Very nice and thank you for your entry.

Eastcoastsponger – “Hand to Hand Combat” You sure did tell the whole story with this one. Great photo. It must have been a great fight to see. Thanks for sharing that one with us.

GarryKirsch – “Battling Geese” Nice geese, but it seems a bit blown out and soft. Not sure if it’s the light reflecting off the water or not. Thanks for entering.

PINNACLE –“ Rutting Reds “ Very sharp and vibrant photo. I’m not sure if it’s the framing, or the angle the photo was taken from, but I can’t find that spot of the photo that shows the violence of the situation. It must have been quite a rush to photograph that. Thank you.


Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to contribute. I enjoyed everyone’s entry and I appreciate your patience with me extending the time until I returned from the field. It’s more challenging than I thought to evaluate photos.

I wish I could take more credit but I was just privileged enough to be there to capture this amazing man. We talked for some time and the world is a much better place because of men like Tony.
