My 5D arrives tomorrow.

What's the learning curve making the jump from a 40D to the 5D??

None really. Just remember the LV button is to the left of the view finder instead of the set button.

5-10 minutes I suppose. The menu system is a little different. 'Course, the menu is actually simpler with less options so I guess I'll go with 5 minutes.

You will have to get used to the fact that your pictures will be better, it is tough but I have faith that you will get through it. Don't just sit the 40D on your desk put it in a bag so it does not get dusty. enjoy!

I'm chuckling at this. A lot of time I need no sharpening to go from camera to web, and I have no sharpening set up in camera or in LR.

I still use my 40D a lot, it's a great body also.

I rarely use my 50D unless there are wild animals in the yard or as a wedding second, so really only with my 70-200. I like the shutter sound better on the 50D, I know .... what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

All the above, plus it has a great feel in the hand. I admit I do have big mits and the crop cameras feel a little small, but that's probably because I'm so used to the 5D. (My old AE1 feels rather small as well.)

As far as learning curves go....good luck. I'm still on one after years of making pictures!

Agreed with the hand feel -- even more solid-feeling than the 50D.

Honestly though, if you find yourself overwhelmed just read the manual.

My poor 50D has not been feeling the love since I got the 5DII, in fact I have even put it back in its box, so you will have a ball with it!!

I use my 40D when I don't want to put shutter actuations on my 5DII (trying new lighting set ups) and when I don't want to be hauling as much $ value around. It's worth more to me than what I could get for it.
