After receiving numerous posts regarding me purchasing a Canon 400L, I pressed the keys and bought one last Sunday from B&H. UPS informed me that it would be delivered on 11/29/11. I stayed home all day, and it did not come. UPS then stated that it would be delivered on 11/30/11. Guess what? Numerous UPS trucks went by, but did not deliver my lens. Now it is tentatively scheduled to be delivered on 12/1/11, with me staying home another day to sign for it. Shame on UPS. If it isn't delivered tomorrow, so I can use it this weekend, I may cancel it, and drive to NYC to pick it up, instead on using UPS. Thank you for letting me vent.

I got an email from CPS about snow storms up north that could cause delays. Do you think this is the issue? BTW: Is this the 400 f/2.8L mkII or mk1?

I was out taking pictures of birds today in PA and then a UPS guy showed up and and started taking pictures right next to me. It was his lunch break he said and he was just trying out a new 400mm to see if he liked it. Might be your guy or I just made the whole thing up. I have a box on it way to me too but it is not here yet.

How far are you from the distribution center? Why not call them up and ask to pick it up in person? I do that with my UPS all the time, it is only a few miles from my house though.

May depend upon where you live -- here, we cannot do that at all. We've tried.

@Nicksan -- Call UPS and explain what's happening. They're pretty good on service in the US.

Ya know, I have to ask myself, am I honest enough to return a 400 MM f/2.8 IS L II mistakenly left at my place with no way to trace it to me?

I guess so. Yeah. I think. By the way, would you guys in PB please stop winning super bowls? It is only fair.

BTW, congrats on the new toy, in advance. I'd sit around and wait for that.

David, thanks. I needed that. He probably did not have the hood out.

BTW, the weather here is nice. Upper 40's. No snow/no rain/no wind.

The distribution center is somewhere out where the buses don't run. They could tell me where it is, but would have to kill me by hitting me with the lens.

I will have a couple of Black & Tans, and hope it comes tomorrow.

Sam. I called UPS. Phone service was no help. Emailed them. Got a response, that said I should have driven to Allentown, and bought it from Dan's Camera City.

Hold the phone -- you KNOW this place. Dan's doesn't have squat for high-end glass. They usually have a 300 f/4 L and maybe a 24-70 laying about. Now, I did get my 15 fish and a few other things there.

BTW, I got married in Squirrel Hill (a/k/a 'square-el hill' spoken really quickly) -- that dome you see off the parkway, the greek orthodox one, I was there. Long time ago....

Same issue, except with Amazon. No idea why they're having issues sending me stuff from NJ but my 2-day shipping on like 4 items took like 4 - 5 days

I had an order from Sierra Trading Post rescheduled for delivery but its now back on track to come today.

Having your local UPS offices phone number comes in handy. Anything I see that requires a signature I get them to hold for pickup.

Heard from corporate UPS. They 'sincerely' apopogized for not getting my (now) three (3) packages (one is the wife's x-mas present from B&H), and stated that the local UPS guy would call me today. Keeping my fingers crossed. Don't care about the phone call. Just want my 400. Maybe Sam from Allentown will let me borrow his until mine comes.

Sam. For what I understand, A-town is the Squirrel Hill of eastern PA. I used to go to Dan's when it was on Highland Ave. back in the 70's. I agree. They cater to the 90% of the people who buy Olympus/N*k*n entry level stuff. Allen's Camera, outside of Philly, has some nice stuff. I ordered stuff from them in the past. I left A-town when Billy Joel sang about living there. Took my wife to Chicago/Cleveland/Spokane/Pittsburgh in the 30 years since.

BTW, like your pics of Lakota wolves taken in April a few years ago. I was there last month. A couple of my pics are under Wildlife.

Allentown is more like, ah, can't recall the name of it, southside? The area is nice today, except for roughly 13th street down, which was basically overrun. Bethlehem would remind you more of PB today in miniature.

And you can't borrow my 400 f/2.8, because mine is an f/4 DO. Weight aside, I'd love to have the 2.8.

I'll poke around for your Lakota shots -- is the old ex nat geo photog who lived with wolves still wandering around up there?

I remember him well, because he told us he just shoots on P and he could care less how good the lenses are, because they're all better than what he used to have.
