First post in this section for me. I had too much coffee tonight so I thought I would try this out. The bike hasn't been washed, but I think it helps with the overall "grittiness" I was looking for. Does it work?

C&C welcomed!

yes - some crop will help more IMHO and the background can be less distracting. good job though

I kind of agree with you on that. I thought that while framing it but thought "oh, what the hell" :) I was kind of hoping the 1.4 would minimize the BG, but obviously not! Thanks for the comment!

I was kind of hoping the 1.4 would minimize the BG,

You need to get closer to the subject for that to happen: Use the center AF point & trust the DOF Field tables (external link).
Try to keep the exif info in the images next time so we can see what it was.

The bike hasn't been washed, but I think it helps with the overall "grittiness"

Dust on black parts can help to separate them from the background.

See the links in my Sig, and...

I went with your comment and darkened the BG to make it less distracting. Better?

Love the DOF link! Thanks! I'm actually having trouble figuring out how to include the EXIF. When I save for web, I have the box ticked that includes all but it doesn't show up.

I like that better.

Save for web strips it out. Use "Save as" instead.

Good luck. I'm still using PS7, so that's the extent of my help with that. ;)

What a location!!! That natural lighting is awesome!!

Like the shots, darker background does work better.

Ian.
