I had the Sigma and returned it for inconsistency. It's sharp when it focuses. Yes could be more sharp wide open. But I can't deal with inconsistent lens.

I always want the sharpest lens available, but I won't sacrifice reliability for it since I photograph events. In all reality a client isn't going to notice the sharpness or bokeh difference between the lenses so I'd rather go with the one that is going to focus correctly every time.
