I know other people shoot H.S. football, but not many share, so here are a couple more mediocre ones from me.

Thanks for looking!

Man, I am constantly amazed at the size of some of the kids I see... Some are simply huge, while others can sport a full beard! I couldn't grow a full beard in highschool! Must be something they put in the water now days...

Yeah, we're almost done as well. 2 more weekends, and then the state finals. I would like it to be a little longer as well, but only if it can start earlier! (It tends to be a little cold here at the end of Nov!)

Thanks!

It is nice to see some American football shooters out there. This is our last weekend of high school football down here in Florida. It has taken me a few weeks and about $700 to get it right. I bought a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens that is perfect for night-time-under-the-lights games. I discovered that it works best for me to shoot in manual mode (Canon 20d) at 1/320 sec and f3.2 with ISO 1600. To see some examples click this link

Now, I suppose I will have to start pointing my camera at guys kicking soccer balls.

They certainly are big boys! Ours are huge, too. I have one of the players in my English class this year who is 6'2" and 375 pounds.

Thanks for sharing your shots!

Thanks for the comments all!

This is my second year shooting H.S. football, and while not the best yet, I can see a big improvement over last year in my pics. (The 70-200 L has helped a bit too... Maybe next year a 20D instead of the DRebel?)

You know how it is, you're allways over critical of your own stuff.

Thanks though! I appreciate it.

Exactly! If they're not going to get out of the way they should at least be where the action is so that they would be in focus. Instead they just throw a shoulder, back of the head, or behind in the shot at the most inopportune moment.

Not to mention how that black and white outfit throws off metering.

Kevin,

Those are some great shots! I thought I'd share some of mine in this thread as well:

http://www.pbase.com/twdarby/football (external link)

These were all shot offhand without a monopod or flash on my 10D using the 100-400 IS L. All of our games are played at night so I never get any daytime shots. BTW, what's next HS Basketball?

Thanks hickory!

You've got some nice shots as well. I also shoot handheld, but with a flash at night.

As for next, the guy I shoot for only covers football, so it looks like I'm back to shooting whatever I can find when the finals are over Thanksgiving weekend until next season.

(That is if you don't count my daughters (who is 10) softball season in the summer.)

Thanks for looking!
