What caused this Horizontal line on my images. I also made exposures in bulb exposure with mirror up and still got the same horizontal line. I have since sent the camera in to have it replaced, but I'm wondering what causes this?

Sensor failure.

Which model was this? Hope your exchange goes well, was it a brand new unit?

Brand new Canon 7d, three weeks old! Canon said to send it in for repair, but I sent it back to the retailer for an exchange.

Is this sensor failure common on a 7d?

Just a sensor defect from the factory. Just like any other product, a small percentage arrive defective from the factory. You just got unlucky. That's what warranty and return policies are for, though, so you'll be fine.

Yeah I had a really bad hot pixel problem on the first 60D I got, just swapped it out and this one has been great.

One reason I buy local when I can - I have people I can interact with and I can get a replacement right away.

The thing that troubles me about this is I took a number exposures the first couple of days I got the camera and they were fine! Then this line started showing up, so I'm wondering did I do anything to cause this?

You didn't do a thing. Return it and get a new one.
