Went up to Rocky Mountain National Park last week for a sunrise hike to The Loch. Unfortunately, with the snow blowing around in the wind we ended up getting lost for a couple miles and missed the beginning of the sunrise. The good news is that we caught some of it. Hope you enjoy, Jon

Glad you got "un-lost", Jon. Great textures in the snow, and #2 is just unreal!

WOW - love the 3 different treatments of the images. The colors and detail are great. I can hardly imagine how cold it must have been...especially this early in the season - it looks very cold.
Great job, keep them coming!

just a few of my thoughts...

All 3 are great, but the first 2 are superb, especially the second.

Beautiful shots! Great colors and content. They sing to me.

LMAO

Jon, sounds like you need a 'trail guide'...:D

Great shots!!! #2 & #3 are wicked...and I know right where you were.

I was up @ Mills & Jewel Lakes last Sunday; almost no wind and temps around 35F...which is highly unusual up there for this time of year.

Getting lost at sunrise is a lot better than getting lost at sunset. It gets cold quickly.

Nice shots once you got here.

Thanks everyone!

It is really amazing how easy it is to lose your way when there's virgin snow covering the ground, especially in the dark. As far as getting lost, the worst of it was missing the beginning of the sunrise. We had a GPS so it wasn't an issue of being in trouble.

Really nice images. I can't even pick a favorite from the 3 - all are spectacular.

Loch Vale and Glacier Gorge are absolutely stunning locations (don't go without a good wide angle lens - super wide doesn't hurt), but I've never braved them in winter. I've been there in late May when you had to flounder through hip deep, wet snow to get to Black Lake, and we got periodically disoriented and thoroughly exhausted bushwhacking (the trail was impossible to follow under so much snow) from Loch Vale to Bear Lake, but winter is too cold up there for this wimp.
