I have several images that need to be stacked. However, PS CS5 only display max.of 5 images (layers) only, on some even only 2. What is the problem and how to correct this? Thank you for the info.

I just tried it on my version of CS5 and was able to load 12 images into a stack. How exactly are you trying. I was selecting my files in Bridge and then go to Tools-Photoshop-Load into Photoshop Layers. I tried it with JPG and TIF files and both worked.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

That's strange, unless it some kind of memory issue you should be able to load many more than 5 or even 12 images. You can open them into layers or open them all into ACR and then into Photoshop. I've loaded more than 80 at a time without any trouble other than it takes a little time..
Clear your cache, and make sure you are allocating enough disc space and memory to PS. Check your history and Cache Settings too.

Thank you for the hint. After I converted to JPG, problem is solved (hopefully, will do another test tomorrow) before I was using RAW. Could that be the reason?

What do you mean?
In the layers palette?

There should be no problem stacking dozens of images.

Shouldn't have to convert to Jpeg first. You should be able to load multiple Raw files.

Photoshop should clear temp files when you shut it down properly, however, if for some reason it wasn't shut down properly those temp file can pile up. You will have to find them.
To clear the ACR Cache you would clear it via PS, Edit > Preferences > File handling > Camera Raw Preferences >Purge Cache.

You may need to adjust your memory usage, Cache level and cache tile size. Additionally, make sure your scratch disc is set up and that the hd you are using has enough space.

Here is some information that might help.

I load my images by going to File,Scripts and then Load Into Stack. Once the dialoug window opens I select the images I want to open from the file they're in and let CS5 do its thing. From there I'm lost and I'm trying to get info on how to edit from that point so any info please pass it forward :)

There are a few things you need to do before you can edit the resulting image. When you use the script to load files into a stack, you want to check the box to Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images.

Another way, once they are all loaded into layers is to (highlight)activate all layers, and then choose Edit > Auto Align Layers. Then Auto Blend Layers.

If you have CS5-Extend you can auto align the layers, convert them to a smart object if you didn't already select that option with the script to load images into stack. Then you can use one of the Smart Object Stack Modes (Layer > Smart Objects > Stack Mode)

Some people prefer to align and blend the layers manually. If you choose that method you will need to choose your base image and align one at a time. Your base image will most likely be the first/bottom layer.
Turn off the visibility for all but the base image and the one you are trying to align on it. Turn the Blending mode to "Lighten" and reduce the opacity enough so you can see the base layer beneath.
Select the move tool and slide the layer around until the objects in it align with the same in the source image.

Once you have done that you can merge all the layers and edit and process them however you prefer.
