Looking for recommendations on the following background support;

- 10-12 feet high [with easily adjustable height]
- 10-12 foot width
- sturdy
- support for 107" seamless roll on top
- avail at B&H or in Canada [Shipping options are too expensive at most stores for something of this size]

I've read as much as I could in the forum but am having a hard time finding a good system. The B&H reviews for most of the stuff there scare me. Seem to be a lot of quality issues, especially with the top bar [most important piece for me] where reviews warn of the top bar sagging.

I have the room in my living room for a 12foot height. Can people comment on whether 10feet is more than sufficient for many situations?

Any suggestions welcome. Should I just look at two solid light stands and then get a crossbar separately?

If its available there, check out Photoflex. I have one of their background kits, cost about 150. Solid as a freaking rock. Brand name, fair price, quality product. Holds 107" seamless with ease.

I have used two 9 foot light stands with a piece of 1 1/2 inch diameter ABS plastic pipe to support a 9 foot roll of seamless white paper. I used a drill to make a hole in each end of the ABS pipe so that the light stand stud would fit partially in the hole. It works fine, but it is not very pretty....

If you can visualize the height of a door frame your golden if your getting 10feet on a backdrop. My "mancave" studio has 9 feet ceilings and I make do. Its very easy to clone in more headroom if necessary.

I purchased a backdrop stand from a local seller. Inspiron photo is a decent place to get gear. My version is air cushioned and quick clamps. So far its holding my whitle vinyl but I can see the weight giving the clamps stress a tad. Pretty decent stand for such a low price. I'll consider looking at other brands but they all seem similar in acceptable support for heavier backdrops but nothing to rave about.

I'm going the autopole route with manfrotto hooks with metal chains. I purchased "task" poles from home depot for 29 bucks a piece.

they also have a 12 foot /8inch version. Just look for the ceiling joist so you dont make holes in the ceiling/drywall. They have a slight wobble when almost fully extended but its fully capable of hold alot more weight than a vinyl backdrop.

From B & H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ned_Heavy_Duty_Light.html (external link)

Get two stands and 3 or 4 of these: http://www.lowes.com …FNtt%3Dantenna&facetInfo= (external link)
The poles fit together and will fit inside hems of most backdrops. Fit them together, label them 1,2,3,4 and drill a hole in 1 & 4 to fit the pin on the top of the light stand. Less than $100 and very sturdy..

If you can forgo the adjustable height and can have a permanent install the manfrotto 3 roll bracket set is inexpensive and versatile. I'm installing mine today but from the look of it you would be able to use multiple rolls at the same time. For example a white laid out on the floor and a color pulled down just to the floor.
