Single Bee tips

Hey Guys..

Finally making the move to an Alien Bee. Budget only allows one right now, but I also have a 430exII and a 580exII. I've been making due with the two speedlights before. I'll be doing a lot of outdoor shoots and auto shots. Is there a thread that I can't seem to find searching that gives tips on using one bee? I'd love any insight. I've dug through the single strobe and the alien bee thread and the images are fantastic. Just no "how I did this".

Most of my outdoor shots are with single AB800. How I did it is simple. Position your main light use sun as rim/hair light. How hard can it be. Nothing beats trying it yourself.

Got that right, I've read and read and read but when those strobes came it was a whole different ball game. What I've read until then were great guidelines, but it just cant really compare with hands on experience.

Its also nice to know what others suggest you buy without making the wrong choice. Thinks like, which umbrella/softbox to start with are invaluable.

I would start with something like a 46" soft lighter II

I also have 46" softliter, nice modifier for the price but now a days my go to modifier for outdoor shoots is SP Systems 37" foldable octabox. I mainly shoot single person shots.
