Just me getting it out of my system.
Got an opportunity to shoot a martial arts training session at a local school and discovered some interesting things about me and my camera.
1. after about an hour of switching out CF cards I decided maybe I do need to invest in a pair of 1gig versus smaller 256meg cards.
2. I set a record (for me) of over 1000 pictures in less then 2 hours. About 400 the first hour, about 600+ the second hour. It should be noted I was playing with the camera trying to see if I could capture sequences, so was shooting these portions in med-fine jpeg mode, which almost kept up with my finger. Only 320 of them were shot in jpeg mode, the rest in RAW.
3. My 550EX flash will let me take about 4 pictures in a row if the target is only about 4-5 feet away with my ISO at 800 and the lens wide open. I would get about 6 flashes out of a nine image sequence in continuous mode. usually missing 5, 7 and 9. In normal operation I usually only got 2 flashes back to back.
4. on the flip side, I confirmed that setting the camera to f8 with 1/180 shutter and aiming at a target about 25 feet away resulted in a really long time for the flash to recharge.
5. I got reminded not to shoot with a flash into a mirror (ouch my eyes
6. In actual operation ISO 800 is not as bad as I thought it would be and worked pretty good with my 50/1.4 for taking pictures with out the flash using indoor lighting. Which is why I got the only prime I have.
7. I was finding that I really needed about a 20mm focal length for most of the pictures to capture the full body of both people.
8. F2.8 on my 16-35 was barely adequate without the flash or other additional lighting. Required ISO 400 at a minimum, ISO 800 was okay.
9. Not sure if I did something wrong, but my master flash reset itself completely when I changed batteries, in so far as I had it so it would not flash, but would trigger my second flash. Worked great until I had to change batteries.
10. Those nifty extra power AA batteries actually did last longer then standard AA batteries did. Not to mention tended to recharge the flashes faster.
Enough rambling for now.
