We made it to the second round of playoffs and faced St. Joe-Ogden, one of the toughest high school football teams in the state. They beat us last year, but not by much, so we were hopeful that the outcome would be in our favor. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. They beat us pretty soundly with a final score of 40-0. Here are a few shots from the game.

#4 Not the best shot, technically, but I love #18's expression!

#5 This was poor Bruiser's last game of high school football so the loss was doubly painful for him.

Thanks. You can tell from the last one that I'm a portrait photographer. I got several shots of the boys' reactions after their loss. It was difficult to watch and even harder to photograph, because I was crying, too.

I shot our kids season and mine sure dont look like that.
my boy would kill me if i posted a pic of him crying. not that i dont have a ton of them, im saving them for when he brings his future wife home.

Liza, I like these a lot....you did well. Sorry for the loss but sometimes you learn a lot more from losses then you do wins. Cheers and thanks for posting.

I like your pics liza, that's a rough loss though!

The story that's almost never told is the emotional letdown from the kids that play their last game, especially the seniors.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks everyone for your comments.
@fromthebleachers: I typically go through about 2GB of memory (Shooting RAW, of course) at each game. My workflow consists of RAW conversion with Raw Shooter Essentials and then cropping, levels, and sharpening in Photoshop. Mine might look a little different from yours, as I have sideline access to all games. It's a little easier to get close to the action that way. I shot most of the images that day with the 70-200, though I did play around with a cheap Sigma 100-300 zoom that I picked up used for less than 100 bucks. It's not a bad lens, though it isn't L glass. Next year I'm shooting football with a 200mm prime and a 1.4x TC, providing Santa puts them in my stocking this year. :)
@MazrRakhm: I make it a habit to get sideline and reaction shots at every game. It's an important part of the yearbook at our high school. (I'm the advisor.) Seems like I do better with those than the action shots, though I strive to improve.
@Croasdail and Gavin: The loss was tough but it brought these boys down to Earth once again. They had several miracle wins stemming from 4th quarter action this season. It was probably one of the most exciting series of high school games I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

I'm going to miss football. Thank God basketball starts on Monday! :D
