Good study in DOF control! The image could use a bit more light. Dare I ask what the in-focus object is?

Sadly, I too have produced far to many photos just like this.

It's a high chair (for feeding babies). Not sure why it's underexposed, maybe he pointed it at the ceiling when he half-pressed the shutter, or accidently hit the partial metering button while pointing at the white easel. My shots from that day turned out fine, exposure-wise.

Thanks to everyone for their condolences. Grandma lived a long life and passed on peacefully. Hard to ask for much more than that.

Isn't the bokeh of the 50mm F1.4 creamy? :D

Curtis, condolences for your grandma, she probably has a chuckle upstairs when she sees this picture. I too am prone to images like this, but I keep on trying ;)

Funny...same thing happened to me. National Softball competition in Texas...."hey, could you take our picture?" I hand her the camera and this is what I got.

Very funny.

How about when people see you with an SLR & hand you a point & shoot to take the picture. How do those things work?

Concerning point here - The high chair is pushed right up against an outlet that has not been child-proofed.

Kudos to you and your photographer on exposing these people for their flagrant disregard to child safety. hehe

Best shot I have seen all Week! You look fantastic curtis!

On a funny side note, we were at a friends for dinner and a buddy's wife said, hey let me see your camera. I said sure. She said ohhh, is it digital? Oh yes mam. She picks it up and starts doing the PS routine- looking to see her content on the LCD. errr.. No, no you have to look thru the view finder, Its a SLR. Ok, "Single lens reflex" she says and goes back to looking at the LCD. It's not on she says. At this point, I tell her the batteries must be dead. You are luck with your photographer, at least they squeezed off a picture.

A little USM might do that pic some good!

That cracked me up, Dante !!!!!:D :D :D

Something like that happened to me once with a ladyfriend....but AFTER I told her to look thru the viewfinder she told me it was not on (Lens cap was on !!!!)

I also told her the batteries were dead!!!!!

My mother asked me to take some shots at the luncheon after my grandmother's funeral, mostly just to document who was there.

After I worked the room a bit, I sat down with Becky to have a bite to eat. An elderly friend came by and offered to get a shot of the two of us. So I handed him my 300D and showed him which button to push.

It was set to center point autofocus ... and it worked perfectly!

LOL
